Shamisen is a Japanese musical instrument which was made popular by Takahashi Chikuzan and later by the Yoshida Brothers, Hiromitsu Agatsuma, Kinoshita Shinichi, Hanawa Chie and Hanamas, Masahiro Nitta, Kyle Abbott and Mike Penny. Tsugaru Shamisen style incorporates inprovisation and has the spirit of freely expressing your own style as its basis. Kevin Kmetz and Jack Mastumoto have been friends for many years and have played together almost every year around the cherry blossom season while the Shamisen tai kai is held in Hirosaki city. This year Jack and Kevin joined the world famous TEAM BACHIDO and won an award for their Tsugaru Shamisen group performance. Kevin is also known throughout youtube for his Shamisen covers of songs by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu.
